I have my suspicions

What do people mean when they say that Windows sucks? Or that Apples suck? You rarely get any details to back up the assertion.

Here's what I think. All computers suck. All operating systems suck. And to varying degrees, all software sucks. So when somebody points to something and says it sucks, what they really mean is, "Mine sucks in a way I can deal with. Yours sucks in a way that taxes my ability to cope."

It's all related to something that people have been saying for a long time, that computer preferences are a form of religious belief. I'll go so far as to say that religious beliefs are a form of personal preference, and there's not much more to them than that.
