Ya ever notice ...

You hear a lot of talk about Bush these days, and I've noticed something. People who criticize Bush usually have plenty of details about why they don't like him—they can explain in specific terms what they don't like about his policies, or his background, or why they think he's lied. People who praise Bush seem to be very vague—he's a strong leader, or he has integrity, or courage, or he's likeable or bold. Nothing specific. That kind of praise is known in advertising as "puffery," and it's a popular device because it sounds good but it's so nebulous it's devoid of actual content, and therefore it's impossible to contradict.

So: people who dislike Bush have concrete reasons. People who like Bush don't—at least not any reason they're willing to state publicly.
