Halloween viewing continues this week with the rental of EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS—really closer to April Fool's Day, it's so goofy. David "dial down the middle" Arquette stars with Doug E. Doug and indie stalwart Scarlett Johansson (THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE, GHOST WORLD). My 5th grade son loved it too. Not too frightening, but there'e one good jump-worthy pop-up ... or rather, pop-DOWN.

I also have JEEPERS CREEPERS in my rental stack, because it was recommended by—of all people—my in-laws. I ahve my doubts about this one, honestly, but I'll give it a try after the kids are in bed. I've found that a 2.5/4.0 star horror movie that someone else might reject outright is often delightful viewing.

The AMC cable channel is running a good "Backstory" episode on the making of HALLOWEEN this week, along with assorted one-minute horror shorts during their now-all-too-frequent commercial breaks.

In other holiday-related news, the town of Eudora KS has cancelled trick-or-treat because it conflicts with a high-school football game. Traffic related safety issues apparently prompted the decision. Did Kansas turn into Texas when I wasn't looking?
